We had a visit from Christie and tested the new Griffyn.
We had the new Christie Griffyn in the home theater of the senior boss and could test the good piece extensively. Enclosed is our report:
The device has (as can be seen from the data sheet) a maximum light output of about 34,000 lumens (center). Generally, this is a pure RGB laser device, so we have 3 separate lasers (RGB) and no phosphor wheel integrated here. The laser unit is also built into the device, so it’s not a separate unit like the Sony Eclipse, which certainly has both advantages and disadvantages.
In the case of the Christie Griffyn, however, this is more of an advantage, since the entire technology is integrated into the device and is very quiet in combination with the laser unit. Depending on the light output, this means a maximum of about 42 dB. With halved power, the value slips down to a moderate 36-38 dB.
This is a very good value in view of this light class. The noise is also constant in the lower octave, so it is certainly audible, but not annoying. Projectors with lamp units are therefore unthinkable to get this „quiet“. However, the noise level increases somewhat when the room gets warmer or is generally too warm. In the range from about 30 degrees room temperature, it then gets louder.
With approx. 930 x 635 x 380 mm (D x W x H) dimensions without lens, at approx. 75 kg weight, the device is certainly a bit „heavier“ than all other HK consumer projectors so far. Normally, such a device should be installed in an extra technical room including ventilation.
The device itself is assigned to laser class 1, despite the high light output.

The build quality is outstanding.
As usual with these professional devices, all components are built in groups and can therefore be replaced individually. The quality of workmanship is outstanding. And now comes a novelty, which has NOT existed so far in the projector market:
The device has a full 3 year 100% pixel warranty, meaning if only 1 pixel fails, the entire DMD block will be replaced.
So big compliments to Christie for this product, so it goes up in value again.

The picture looks like a giant OLED TV
Controlled via Mad VR (or Envy) with the correct HDR basic settings on the projector, the image already looked terrific without further adjustment. This color splendor and incredible native sharpness are certainly the best that is currently feasible in projection. (The Eclipse also uses the same 4K resolution including lenses). The image looks like a giant OLED TV.
Of course, the projection does not reach the absolute black level of the OLED technology, but the brilliance and this incredible sharpness are really impressive.
With the extra HC lens, the other settings / basic settings in the projector (only on this demo projector so selectable), we have with about 15000 lumens and about 11000:1 native contrast, the images / videos could experience, which could conjure a very very real black level representation on the screen.
The detail in all IRE values is so enormous that you really have to look twice to believe what you see. After further optimization in the MAD VR tuning, this could be further increased.
In general, the device acts like a precision tool; you can further optimize so many parameters and thus increase the immersion of the image step by step. Conversely, this means that the projector can be optimally adjusted to the various installation properties with razor-sharp precision.
Especially the convergence adjustment offers an eldorado of settings.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Christie and Jan Walter.

Christie Griffyn 4K32 RGB Projector
Christie Griffyn 4K32 RGB Projector
Lightweight, compact design with less than 46 dB at full brightness
A technological marvel developed by Christies there. The projector features integrated cooling and a sealed optical path for reliable illumination performance. Any surface can be illuminated with 34,000 lumens while the projector operates at less than 46 dB at full brightness. Built for demanding applications in large venues on the ground or in the air, this advanced projector is designed to provide the best possible performance.
Design Excellence
This compact and powerful all-in-one omnidirectional projector is Christie’s first projector with new „TruLife+“ electronics platform. You no longer need interchangeable option cards. This includes a new digital convergence that you can adjust remotely for easy, image-accurate alignment. The Christie Griffyn 4K32-RGB significantly raises the bar for RGB-only laser projection performance.
Spectacular graphics
The Christie Griffyn 4K32-RGB produces an exceptionally wide color gamut and achieves> 96% of Rec. 2020 color gamut – more than double Rec. 709 and 50% more than DCI-P3 capable projectors – for an enhanced audience experience. And optional High Frame Rate (HFR) capability for 120 Hz at 4K resolution or up to 480 Hz at 2K resolution. The Christie Griffyn is ready to transport your audience to colorful new worlds.
